The Life Cycle Inventory at the heart of your environmental approach

Are you looking to accurately measure the environmental impact of your products? WeLOOP supports you from A to Z in developing your Life Cycle Inventory (LCI), from data collection to the production of a report compliant with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards.

What is an LCI (Life Cycle Inventory)?

The creation of LCIs (Life Cycle Inventories) consists of developing inventory datasets that describe the flows of materials, energy, emissions and waste associated with a process, product or service. A complete and documented LCI provides the essential foundation for reliably assessing environmental impacts in accordance with ISO 14040/14044 standards.

1

Obtain specific environmental data

Develop representative LCIs for your processes, raw materials or services to accurately assess your environmental impacts.

3

Support your eco-design and innovation initiatives

Identify the life cycle stages that contribute the most to environmental impacts in order to guide your impact reduction actions and develop more sustainable products.

What does an LCI enable for my company?

2

Meet regulatory and sector-specific requirements

Access data that complies with applicable standards and regulations, particularly for environmental declarations, environmental labelling requirements, or your customers’ expectations.

4

Showcase your sector-specific expertise

Contribute to improving the LCA maturity level of your sector by enriching existing databases with data representative of your industry.

Our LCI support services

The value of a Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) lies less in the tools used than in the rigour of the initial scoping, the quality of the data collected and the relevance of their structuring. WeLOOP supports you at each of these stages to ensure the reliability and reusability of your data.

Our role is to handle the methodological complexity on your behalf while involving you in the key decisions that shape the study, ensuring that your teams fully understand and take ownership of its conclusions.

Data collected and structured to accurately reflect your operational reality

We organize the collection of your primary data and enrich it with the best available secondary data. Each source is documented and each substitution is justified, in order to build an inventory that you can confidently present, whether during a critical review or to your customers.

A clear, traceable, and audit-ready model.

Co-products, allocation rules, cut-off criteria: we document each methodological choice explicitly and in accordance with the ISO 14044 standard. Your model is reproducible, understandable by your teams and defensible to any third-party reviewer.

A Life Cycle Inventory tailored to your current and future regulatory requirements

CSRD, Digital Product Passport (DPP), environmental labelling: we build your LCI while anticipating your regulatory requirements. A well-defined inventory from the outset can support multiple declarations and help you avoid starting from scratch for each new requirement.

1

Definition of the scope of the study and functional unit

– Precise delimitation of the studied system (system boundaries)
– Definition of the reference functional unit
– Establishment of modelling assumptions

2

Collection of primary and secondary data

– On-site audits at your suppliers' facilities
– Extraction of production data
– Supplementation with recognized databases (ecoinvent, Agribalyse)
– Systematic documentation of each source to ensure traceability

3

Modeling and calculations using LCA software

– Modelling of the system in SimaPro, openLCA or LCA for Experts (GaBi)
– Calibration of flows
– Sensitivity analysis
– Generation of a complete inventory of the product's input and output flows

4

Life Cycle Inventory Report & Eco-design Recommendations

– Delivery of a report compliant with the target framework (LCI – INIES)
– Identification of concrete levers to reduce the environmental impacts of products

Focus on selected projects

Due to the lack of reliable LCI data on lithium-ion battery recycling in existing LCA databases, WeLOOP has developed a Life Cycle Inventory database entirely dedicated to this sector. Each LCI accurately documents the material, energy and emission flows associated with four recycling processes: Black Mass preparation, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy and direct recycling, as well as the associated recycled materials: lithium salts, cobalt, nickel and copper.

Configured according to Black Mass composition, regional location and allocation rules, available in aggregated or disaggregated versions and compatible with Ecoinvent, these LCIs enable the calculation of battery carbon footprints in accordance with European Regulation (EU) 2023/1542. WeLOOP also offers the co-development of customised LCIs, calibrated to the specific composition of your Black Mass.

As the winner of the ECONUM 2025 call for projects launched by ADEME and funded by France 2030, NaKnow is the first European initiative to produce open, scientifically documented and harmonised Life Cycle Inventories (LCIs) for digital components: chips, electronic boards, memory devices and screens.

Within this leading consortium, WeLOOP is responsible for sample selection, the design of laboratory analysis protocols and data modelling in order to refine existing LCIs. These primary data, generated through a rigorous approach compliant with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards, will contribute to enriching ADEME’s Empreinte Database and provide a common foundation for digital industry stakeholders across Europe. A structuring project at the heart of environmental labelling, CSRD and digital equipment eco-design challenges.
