Critical review

What is a critical review?

To ensure the quality of an LCA study, the results may be subject to critical review. LCA is subject to ISO 14040 and 14044 standards. The critical review makes it possible to ensure the conformity of the results obtained, by verifying all the hypotheses of the study.

If the LCA consists of a study of the impacts of products / services, the results of which are communicated publicly, the critical review is mandatory in order to ensure that the conclusions transmitted are correct.

Depending on the field of application, the critical review exists in two forms and in particular a so-called panelle critical review with the aim of determining compliance during the comparative study of products / services etc. and the individual critical review dedicated to a single product or service, which does not involve any comparison, and carried out by an independent expert.

Why do a critical review?

The critical review makes it possible to improve the study thanks to the points of view of experts and to ensure the conformity of the LCA to the ISO 14040 and 14044 standards and to verify the overall consistency of the study and to see potentials improvements of the LCA method from a scientific and technical point of view (if the data, the sources of the literature are appropriate for the purpose of the study).

Thus, the critical review is a real contribution to certify the quality of your study.

Conduct of a panel critical review

The critical review can be integrated at different stages of the project: from the start of the project to more easily integrate expert comments for the conduct of the study or at the end of the study, once the report has been written.

Formation of a panel of experts (LCA experts, expert in the field of study, etc.)

Verification of the study and comments from the panel experts

Discussion of comments and integration of changes in the initial study

Finalization of the critical review report after integration of experts' comments

Conduct of an individual critical review

Study verification
First examination by the expert

Discussion of comments and integration of changes in the initial study

Finalization of the critical review report after integration of experts' comments
