<strong><\/strong>Ces termes fran\u00e7ais sont souvent utilis\u00e9s comme synonymes, mais leur sens varie selon le contexte.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La diff\u00e9rence entre ces expressions d\u00e9pend du contexte, de l\u2019objet \u00e9tudi\u00e9 et du r\u00e9f\u00e9rentiel utilis\u00e9. \u00ab Bilan Carbone\u00ae \u00bb d\u00e9signe une m\u00e9thode particuli\u00e8re, tandis qu\u2019\u00ab empreinte carbone \u00bb est une expression plus g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, applicable \u00e0 un produit, un service, une organisation ou un territoire.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:70px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-pourquoi-la-confusion-est-elle-si-frequente\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pourquoi la confusion est-elle si fr\u00e9quente ?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-neve-link-hover-color-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-neve-link-hover-color-background-color has-background is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"h-pourquoi-est-il-si-difficile-de-mesurer-l-empreinte-carbone-et-environnementale-des-produits-de-sante-nbsp\"><strong>Les deux approches<\/strong> <strong>reposent sur<\/strong> <strong>une<\/strong> <strong>m\u00eame<\/strong> <strong>r\u00e9alit\u00e9<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Elles quantifient les \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre (GES) ayant un impact sur le changement climatique, dont les principaux gaz et familles de gaz comptabilis\u00e9s sont le dioxyde de carbone (CO\u2082), le m\u00e9thane (CH\u2084), le protoxyde d&rsquo;azote (N\u2082O), les hydrofluorocarbures (HFC), les perfluorocarbures (PFC), l\u2019hexafluorure de soufre (SF\u2086) et le trifluorure d&rsquo;azote (NF\u2083).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Des r\u00e9sultats exprim\u00e9s en kilogrammes ou en tonnes d\u2019\u00e9quivalent de CO\u2082 (kg CO\u2082eq ou t CO\u2082eq).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Des m\u00e9thodologies reposant sur des principes similaires de comptabilisation des \u00e9missions et de mesures d\u2019impact.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Une question de vocabulaire plus que de science<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Il n&rsquo;existe pas de d\u00e9finition universelle opposant strictement ces deux termes. Selon les contextes, la distinction peut \u00eatre li\u00e9e \u00e0 <strong>l&rsquo;objet<\/strong> \u00e9tudi\u00e9 (organisation ou produit), au <strong>p\u00e9rim\u00e8tre<\/strong> consid\u00e9r\u00e9 (territorial ou de consommation) ou simplement \u00e0 des habitudes de langage. Cette m\u00e9thodologie a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7ue pour aider les organisations \u00e0 quantifier leurs \u00e9missions directes et indirectes et \u00e0 construire des plans de transition bas-carbone.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La m\u00e9thode Bilan Carbone\u00ae vise \u00e0 identifier et \u00e0 quantifier les \u00e9missions directes et indirectes significatives associ\u00e9es aux activit\u00e9s de l\u2019organisation, dans le p\u00e9rim\u00e8tre retenu, afin de construire un plan de transition. Un inventaire de GES n\u2019est donc pas n\u00e9cessairement un Bilan Carbone\u00ae : cette appellation renvoie \u00e0 l\u2019application de la m\u00e9thode correspondante. Les r\u00e9sultats sont r\u00e9partis par cat\u00e9gories de sources d\u2019\u00e9mission, aujourd&rsquo;hui souvent reclass\u00e9s selon les scopes du GHG Protocol pour r\u00e9pondre aux attentes r\u00e9glementaires et internationales.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En effet, \u00e0 l&rsquo;international, le r\u00e9f\u00e9rentiel le plus utilis\u00e9 pour d\u00e9clarer son impact sur le changement climatique est le <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ghgprotocol.org\/corporate-standard\">GHG Protocol Corporate Standard<\/a><\/strong>, d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 par le World Resources Institute (WRI) et le World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). Elle est compatible avec les principes g\u00e9n\u00e9raux du GHG Protocol tout en adoptant une structure propre. Le GHG Protocol et l\u2019ISO travaillent \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9laboration d\u2019un <a href=\"https:\/\/ghgprotocol.org\/blog\/ghg-protocol-announces-key-standard-development-updates-faq-resource\">r\u00e9f\u00e9rentiel <\/a>commun pour la comptabilit\u00e9 et le reporting des GES des organisations. Ce projet doit r\u00e9unir le Corporate Standard, les r\u00e9f\u00e9rentiels relatifs aux scopes 2 et 3, les travaux sur les actions et instruments de march\u00e9, ainsi que l\u2019ISO 14064-1. L&rsquo;objectif est alors d&rsquo;\u00e9valuer les \u00e9missions de GES g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es tout au long du cycle de vie du syst\u00e8me \u00e9tudi\u00e9, depuis l&rsquo;extraction des mati\u00e8res premi\u00e8res jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 la fin de vie du produit.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette approche repose sur les principes de l<a href=\"https:\/\/www.weloop.org\/evaluation-des-impacts\/analyse-du-cycle-de-vie\/\">&lsquo;<strong>Analyse du Cycle de Vie (ACV)<\/strong><\/a> d\u00e9finis par les normes <strong>ISO 14040<\/strong> et <strong>ISO 14044<\/strong>. Contrairement \u00e0 une ACV compl\u00e8te qui \u00e9value plusieurs indicateurs d\u2019impact environnementaux, l&#8217;empreinte carbone ne s&rsquo;int\u00e9resse qu&rsquo;\u00e0 une seule cat\u00e9gorie d&rsquo;impact : le <strong>changement climatique<\/strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La norme internationale de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence est <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iso.org\/standard\/71206.html\">ISO 14067<\/a><\/strong>, qui d\u00e9finit les exigences et lignes directrices pour la quantification de l&#8217;empreinte carbone des produits. Cette norme permet de r\u00e9aliser des \u00e9tudes compl\u00e8tes (\u00ab cradle-to-grave \u00bb) ou partielles (\u00ab cradle-to-gate \u00bb), selon les objectifs de l&rsquo;\u00e9tude.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dans l&rsquo;\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me du GHG Protocol, un autre r\u00e9f\u00e9rentiel est le <a href=\"https:\/\/ghgprotocol.org\/product-standard\">GHG Protocol Product Standard<\/a>, utilis\u00e9 pour calculer les \u00e9missions associ\u00e9es \u00e0 un produit sur l&rsquo;ensemble de son cycle de vie.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-a-quoi-correspond-le-bilan-ou-l-empreinte-carbone-d-un-territoire-nbsp\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u00c0 quoi correspond le bilan ou l\u2019empreinte carbone d\u2019un territoire\u202f?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-neve-link-hover-color-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-neve-link-hover-color-background-color has-background is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dans le cas des territoires ou des \u00c9tats, la distinction entre bilan carbone et empreinte carbone renvoie souvent \u00e0 une autre r\u00e9alit\u00e9.&nbsp;L&rsquo;<strong>inventaire territorial<\/strong> ou <strong>bilan carbone d\u2019un territoire<\/strong> comptabilise les \u00e9missions produites physiquement sur le territoire consid\u00e9r\u00e9 : industrie, transports, agriculture, b\u00e2timents, etc.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L&rsquo;<strong>empreinte carbone de consommation,<\/strong> ou <strong>empreinte carbone d\u2019un territoire,<\/strong> cherche quant \u00e0 elle \u00e0 attribuer les \u00e9missions \u00e0 la consommation finale des habitants. Elle ajoute les \u00e9missions associ\u00e9es aux produits import\u00e9s et retire celles associ\u00e9es aux produits export\u00e9s.&nbsp;&nbsp;Cette distinction est couramment utilis\u00e9e dans les travaux de l&rsquo;ADEME, des organismes statistiques et des institutions publiques.
