for all batteries entering the EU market in 2025<\/strong>. These requirements apply to batteries for electric vehicles (EVs), light means of transport (LMT) batteries, and industrial batteries with a capacity exceeding 2 kWh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">The aim of this new regulation is to govern the entire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weloop.org\/en\/batteries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>life cycle of batteries<\/strong><\/a> entering the EU market, ensure safety against the risks of batteries, embed their development within <strong>a circular economy approach<\/strong>, and strengthen the EU's strategic autonomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:60px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-dates-cles\"><strong><strong>Roadmap <\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-neve-link-hover-color-color carbon footprint of each model and production site<\/strong> using company- and site-specific data. This data is aligned with the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/green-business.ec.europa.eu\/environmental-footprint-methods_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PEF method<\/a><\/strong>, which remains the reference for carbon footprint assessment. The PEF method relies on a <strong>detailed life cycle analysis<\/strong> (LCA) of the batteries, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The extraction and production of raw materials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The manufacturing stages.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The distribution and use of batteries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The management of their end-of-life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Since the publication of the official calculation rules for the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eplca.jrc.ec.europa.eu\/EU_BatteryRegulation_Art7.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CFB-EV<\/a><\/strong> (Carbon Footprint of Electric Vehicle Batteries) by the <strong>Joint Research Centre<\/strong> (JRC) in February 2024, battery producers have had a clear framework to comply with the new requirements.
