Recap of the BATTERS Phase 2 Kick-off Meeting – 24 June 2025

The kick-off meeting for the BATTERS Phase 2 project was held online on 24 June 2025, bringing together around fifty participants from across the battery value chain: design offices, engineering firms, manufacturers involved in battery production, storage and recycling, as well as local authorities, public institutions, competitiveness clusters, technical centres, and academic and research organisations.

A particularly rich first meeting, marked by collaboration and the sharing of expertise.

A few words about the BATTERS Phase 2 project

BATTERS

The second phase of the BATTERS project, led by WeLOOP and Ailoop, aims to further structure and energise the battery sector in the Hauts-de-France region by addressing environmental, economic, and societal challenges, as well as the criticality of raw materials.

The objective is to strengthen innovation, cooperation between stakeholders, and anticipation of regulatory developments, notably through the development of a collaborative platform dedicated to the sharing and use of LCA data, eco-design, and the circular economy.

 A structuring kick-off meeting

On the agenda:

  • Presentation of a market study conducted in 2025 on the various types of battery uses (Emilie Guilvert – WeLOOP)
  • Focus on the current and future European context: carbon footprint, recycling rates, DPP, and implications for industry. (Kinga Timaru-Kast – RECHARGE)
  • Presentation of the project objectives, target users, co-design methodology, and a visual projection of the future platform. (Guillaume Szablewski – Ailoop)
  • Focus on the challenges encountered in the use and sharing of data within the sector (Ara Sedrakian – Ampere)
  • 2 Collaborative workshops to jointly identify the major challenges of the BATTERS 2 project and prioritise the needs

Key takeaways from this meeting

  • A growing concern regarding the evolution of the European regulatory framework and its implications for the sector.
  • Key issues to be further explored concerning the reliability, structuring, volume, and confidentiality of data.
  • A strong expectation for a user-friendly, intuitive, and adaptable platform tailored to the practical needs of all stakeholders.
  • A clear commitment to collaboration among all actors in the value chain, particularly between academia and industry.
  • A shared interest in both territorial and international cooperation, aimed at pooling efforts and harmonising practices.

Looking ahead

You can now take part in the next phase of the project!

The collaborative workshops planned for 2026 will allow for a deeper exploration of the needs related to BATTERS 2, testing the functionalities of the Life Cycle Analysis Module of the platform, and collectively advancing this tool.
