Understanding and reducing the impacts is an important first step
How can we move from one-off initiatives to lasting transformation across an entire sector?

Life cycle assessment and sustainability approaches, whether LCA, eco-design or other methods, help inform decision-making and demonstrate the value of more sustainable solutions. However, they often remain one-off initiatives and, on their own, are not enough to bring about lasting changes in the practices of dozens or even hundreds of stakeholders with very different levels of maturity, resources and constraints. This webinar will present a method developed and implemented by WeLOOP to go beyond one-off studies and create a collective momentum. The idea is to build on what already exists, better understand the sector’s level of maturity and the needs of its stakeholders, then develop a progressive roadmap and support its implementation over time.

The experience gained from the PEPS project, with Eurasanté and Clubster NSL, in the healthcare sector, and from the Alliance A2U project (Université d’Artois, Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale and Université Picardie Jules Verne), in the higher education sector, will provide concrete illustrations of this approach.

Goals

Understand why a succession of “one-off” LCAs is not enough to mainstream life cycle thinking across a sector or territory, and learn how to structure an appropriate deployment approach.

  1. Identify the 5 key steps: benchmarking, maturity assessment, needs identification, action plan and implementation.
  2. Identify existing resources to build on
  3. Define actions tailored to the level of maturity: awareness-raising, training, pilot projects, shared tools and common resources.
  4. Assess the relevance of the approach for your sector, network, university or territory
