The International Round Table on Materials Criticality (IRTC) : conférence et formation
The International Round Table on Materials Criticality (IRTC)
WeLOOP is a partner of the IRTC project, established in 2018 and funded by EIT RawMaterials.
IRTC se compose d’experts internationaux de premier plan en matière de criticité des matériaux qui discutent des différentes perspectives et exigences des évaluations de la criticité, des impacts de la criticité et des moyens de l’atténuer.
The project bridges academic expertise, industrial practice, and policy development, engaging with stakeholders from around the globe.
IRTC Conference 2024
After a very successful first IRTC conference in Lille in 2023, organised by WeLOOP, the IRTC 2024 conference will take place from 21 to 23 February 2024 in Turin, Italy.
IRTC24 focuses on new approaches to criticality to address the challenges of a changing geopolitical landscape and material needs to combat the climate crisis – examining emerging policies, new ideas for mitigating criticality, and new forms of collaboration between sectors and countries to promote supply security and sustainability.
IRTC24 offers you the unique opportunity to discover and discuss cutting-edge topics on criticality, the importance of critical raw materials for decarbonisation and advanced technologies, new mitigation strategies, and the most pressing issues in industry, academia, and policy-making. It provides a platform to connect with decision-makers and participants from a wide range of expertise, backgrounds, countries, and stakeholder groups.
IRTC Training
IRTC offers courses that train sector professionals, turning them into "material risk managers" capable of identifying and taking steps to mitigate supply risks specific to their company.
These courses will be standardized and certified ISO and will be led by a group of specialised experts. After completing a basic IRTC course, participants will be able to:
- define the risks associated with criticality
- apply risk concepts to raw material supply security
- distinguish between different levels of analysis
- understand the common types of risks for specific stakeholder groups
- know the common methods for assessing criticality
- know the criticality indicators and their databases
After two pilot trainings in 2022 and 2023, the first module of the certified course will take place on 20th February 2024 in Turin, Italy.
This course is organised by the IRTC training team and taught by Luis Tercero (Fraunhofer ISI), Dieuwertje Schrijvers (WeLOOP) and Alessandra Hool (ESM Foundation).
This one-day introductory programme covers the fundamentals of criticality and critical raw materials assessment, providing the essential context for making the most of the IRTC conference. We delve into the EU assessment methodology, and participants will become familiar with its composition, factors, indicators, and common data sources. By the end of the training, you will have an understanding of the considerations underpinning criticality assessments and be able to replicate the standard EU criticality assessment procedure for a given material.
You will also analyse the evolution of customer relationship management policies, such as the European Critical Raw Materials Act, and their impact on critical raw materials and their management.
